Staying Organized with Young Children

I have always been a pretty organized person. I kept a clean room growing up; and, as a young wife I focused on a neat and tidy home. Both my husband and I are actually a bit obsessive when it comes to neatness. Then we had our first baby.

Do you know how much “stuff” comes along with a baby?

It was everywhere and on every surface…we had to settle for organized chaos. A few years later, we had another child. In the midst of our “organized chaos”, we were still feeling stressed with all the toys, clothing, arts/crafts and general “stuff” laying around. I needed to be strategic about how we organized so that the mess wasn’t impacting our well-being.

Being a Mom is very rewarding, and yet it is also the hardest job in life! Weather you are a stay at home mom, a work from home mom, a work out of the house mom, a single mom, a married mom, a caregiver, or any other combo; trying to juggle life and raise a little one has its challenges! But don’t get me wrong, I would not change it for the world!

However, a few years ago, I tried to come up with a system that would allow it all to feel a bit more manageable. Through lots of trial and error, we have found a system that works for us in this current phase of life. We still don’t get it right 100% of the time, but I can honestly say that I feel better in control of my time now than I did a few years ago….

5 Tips to Organizing the Playroom

Over the years I have tried dozens of organizing strategies in our playroom. I love clean lines, order, and little clutter. But I also want an inviting space that encourages creativity and allows for hours of non-technology play. My kids love when I help them create villages filled with little homes, a treehouse, stores, schools, parks, zoos, and more! We bring in little animals, matchbox cars, and before you know it – their playroom is transformed into another world.

This set-up can take hours, and we leave it up for days. Each time they run back to play again they add more to it. But once the excitement wears off and they want to play something else, we clean up our space thoroughly and start with a clean slate again.

I have found that in order for this cycle to continue, it only works efficiently if every single toy has a designated spot. This allows for cleaning to be done quicker and easier, and really allows for overall order. When the playroom is a mess the kids won’t go in it. But when it is clean, it’s inviting and their imagination can run wild.

Here is what I have found works well for us. Each suggestion might not be the one-all solves-all, but these strategies together have worked really well for us!…
